Underrated 90s Bands You Should Know

When I think of music from the 90s popular bands like Weezer, Nirvana, Everclear, and Hole are the first to come to mind. But there are plenty of unappreciated bands that people should know about. Here’s a short list to check out.

that dog.

Not many bands can pull off blending heavy guitar tones and violin solos, but this Los Angeles based indie-pop does that effortlessly.

For those who like: The Breeders, Veruca Salt, The Rentals, Rivers Cuomo, Superdrag

OZMA

If you loved Weezer’s Blue Album and Pinkerton, then you will definitely want to give this band a listen. Formed in 1995, this power-pop LA band blends heavy riffs and Casiotone melodies.

Take a listen to “Shooting Star” (even though this particular song was released in 2001, I still included it anyway because it’s a banger)

For those who like: Weezer, Nada Surf, The Rentals, Rozwell Kid, Rivers Cuomo, that dog.

Duster

Those who listen to shoegaze might already be familiar with this band, and those who aren’t familiar are missing out on a lot of good artists!

“Gold Dust” is my personal favorite song off their record Stratosphere

For those who like: Bedhead, Helvetia, Red House Painters

Toadies

They are best known for their hit single Possum Kingdom”, which has one of my favorite basslines.

For those who like: Local H, Marcy Playground, Sponge, Everclear, The Presidents of the United States of America

Vitreous Humor

They wrote bangers like “Why Are You So Mean To Me?” and “She Eats Her Esses”, but unfortunately the band was short-lived and not many people knew about their music until after their breakup.

For those who like: Weezer, Nada Surf, The Regrets
