Isaac’s Mix Vol. 3: It’s Catching Up

Massacre Of The Innocents by Peter Paul Rubens

Isaac’s Mix is a monthly playlist curated by Nothing Mag Editor, Isaac Foster.

“Pitchfork would never,” -Isaac Foster

Wow, three months could not have passed slower. I have spent most of my time quarantined up, binge-watching Tiger King, The Nelk Boys, or whatever else I could find on the internet to pass time. About two weeks ago though, I was able to land a full-time position at Lowe’s which has since filled up my schedule. This is my first “real job” besides the few side hustles I’ve picked up through journalism. In contrast to my unemployed quarantined life, which consisted of an exceptional amount of pot and Instagram, this new lifestyle has been a change of pace, to say the least.

Usually, I would handle such frustrations in a mosh pit at The Smell or another local DIY venue. Sadly, I am unable to do this due to all gatherings being banned, so I am left to angrily nod my head alone in my room. It truly pains me to not able to see some of my favorite local bands like The Gems and Gums. On the bright side, this inaccessibility to shows has led me to seek out some bands that I have never listened to such as Die Kreuzen and The Jesus Lizard.

They say you never realize how much you love something until it is gone, and boy oh boy do I love throwing my body against other people to fast music. Punk rock has been resonating with me extra hard due to how much I miss it and because of my newfound hatred for The Man. If I have a bad experience with a difficult customer, I handle it during my break by bumping some Nomeansno or Sabrina Is Not In This Chat. It puts me right back in my good psyche.

I can imagine that a lot of us are feeling the same angst that I am feeling, so take this playlist and angrily stomp around in a circle for a bit. I bet you’ll feel better.
