Joynoise Live At The Locker Room By Jess Rodriguez
I had the pleasure of sending over a few questions to Joynoise, an alternative band from Huntington Beach, CA, about their fan-centered music video for their song Pearl Mountain.
Check out the video and their answers below!
1. Who makes up Joynoise and how would you describe the atmosphere of your music?
Koch – Joynoise is made up of me (Koch), Mason & Darren and kinda sorta our buddy Johnny, who’s been playing drums with us as an unofficial member. To me, the atmosphere Joynoise puts off is obviously loud and energetic, but also cathartic and expressive. I want our fans to be able to listen to/sing along to our songs and feel a connection and be able to apply it to their personal lives. So I think that kind of vibe comes through in the music, at least I hope it does.
We all try to create music that sounds distinctively like us, even if you can still hear the influences within it. We use a lot of loud, distorted guitars but I wouldn’t go anywhere near calling us a punk band. Some people call us punk and those people are wrong. We have a pretty decent amount of quiet moments within our music that I think helps keep it interesting. I’m not quite sure what the atmosphere of it is really, but it seems like our fans like it and I definitely like playing it.
2. Who came up with the idea of having a fan-centered music video? Any plans for a future show with bands all online?
Koch – I came up with the idea after having like 3 or 4 other ideas. After the Coronavirus thing started getting really serious, I figured that we would all totally be trapped in our houses for a while. I pay a lot of attention to world affairs and shit and whenever something happens I like to have content that is topical to whatever’s going on in the world.
So with us all being stuck at home, I figured why not make a music video of us and all our fans stuck at home but still having fun. I wanted to give people something fun to do under the grim circumstances we’re in while also having something that wasn’t just centered on us. A big part of Joynoise is that we want to create an atmosphere where the fans feel like they’re almost part of the band as opposed to just fans of the band. We got a lot of great videos sent to us too. There’s so much footage that didn’t make it into the music video that’s totally hilarious.
No plans for any live streams or whatever currently. We could always do acoustic ones more often but honestly Mason and I did one not too long ago and it didn’t go very well… maybe shoulda practiced more.
3. Any meaning behind the song name “Pearl Mountain”?
Koch – Well… it’s an innuendo. Pearl Mountain has the same subject matter as a very popular Eric Clapton song, but I wanted to be a little bit more subtle with the title.
4. What bands/people, dead or alive, would you invite to your After Pandemic Party? (For me, I would invite The Strokes, Lil Wayne, and Kobe)
Koch – I’d definitely invite Tyler the Creator, David Bowie, Guy Fieri, and Gumby. There would for sure be a Pearl Mountain there.
Mason – Gordon Ramsay, Beetlejuice, Dave Chappelle, DJ Khaled, and all the members of Creed.
Darren – Markiplier and Dave Grohl.
5. Of all of the pets that appeared in the “Pearl Mountain” music video (images below), which one would win in a 4 pet brawl?
Koch – The pug Lucy hands down 100%. That’s my girlfriend’s dog. She’s a feisty motherfucker.
Mason – The only answer is Lucy plain and simple.
Darren – The big grey pupper would win.
Honorable mention – our manager Donna thinks the cat would win.
