Let me paint you a picture: The sea’s salty breeze is surrounding you as you’re walking into the discotheque decked out in your raddest threads. A spherical object hangs in the center of the dance floor reflecting pink and purple light. The band cues up… what song are they playing?
Since their inception, The Bash Dogs have developed a sound like no other. The Bash Dogs have recently supplemented their sound to include a funky essence. The band has released their newest single, “Dog Days” today! I had a conversation with Nate Barrett, lead guitar and singer regarding their newest work.
Check out “Dog Days” out now on all streaming platforms!
For those who may not know you, please introduce yourself.
Hello, we are The Bash Dogs it’s so very nice to meet you. We grew up in Orange County and now half of us live there and half of us live in Los Angeles. We are a rock band with a surf, disco twist.
What is the story behind the formation of The Bash Dogs?
Well, The Bash Dogs started in high school but prior to that, my brother Jerm (Jeremy Barrett) and I did the talent show in 5th grade. We played Gloria by Van Morrison for the whole school; me on guitar and Jerm on the drums. Then we played the 6th grade talent show, the 7th and 8th and then in high school we met our low-frequency love machine Schmoky Bear (Nathan Schmok). We knew he was our guy when he showed us that he knew every Zep song at a jam sesh we had after school one day. We were a power trio with influences like The Black Keys, Cream, Rage Against the Machine etc. A lot has changed since then but hey we are still together! Perhaps you can say that all sound changes with time?
Your new single has just been released. Congratulations! Talk about “Dog Days”, what’s the story behind the song?
Dog Days is the song of The Bash Dogs. I would say it describes us in every way as it captures the essence of what it means to be a ‘Bash Dog’. “Time, I feel it movin’ take it slow all the dogs are together now, all I want is to show you somethin’ how to cheers to the years if you don’t know how” I guess you could say that the song is really about enjoying these so called ‘Dog Days’ and not worry too much about what all the straight cats are doing you know like the corporate robots that forgot what living life is about. Surely I am NOT saying life is about boozing out and slapping cakes… but c’mon man take your shoes off and boogie around a bit. It’s more-so about enjoying the moment with your DOGS. I would also say a lot of our songs, ‘Dog Days’ is a feel good party song that you can just close your eyes, boogie and forget about the shit for a few minutes.

Where was it recorded?
We recorded it with Jordan Feller from NEIL Frances at his studio in Echo Park. We thought it was very important to make sure this single was recorded with someone that could take us into that dance direction. As we have set sail on this newer kind of funk, dance path we needed someone that understood that and we thought Jordan did a great job not to mention he is a standup bloke and amazing friend. Everyone check out his project, honestly love you Johdeen!
When should we expect the music video?
We will release it on Feb 21 and you can expect a whole lotta boogie, cheetah suits, cheap champagne, sugar on the sweetest cake you know the essentials.
Should we be expecting an EP or album soon?
Not sure if anyone knows but we are working on our first ever FULL length and have a gnarly release party planned for summer.

Touring is set up for March, correct? What sort of lineup should we be watching out for?
We are so excited to tour. Our kickoff show will be in the homeland at the beloved Wayfarer in Costa Mesa for our monthly party we throw called “Soul Kitchen” tickets will sell out so be sure to snag yours here then next we play M3F in Phoenix, Arizona!
Can we look forward to any more releases soon? Digital or physical?
Maybe we will release another single before tour!
Any final words?

Cheers to the years!
