REVIEW: The Good Place – finale episode

The final episode of “The Good Place” has finally arrived this past Thursday on NBC. There was no better ending for the show!
“The Good Place” is by far one of my favorites sitcoms. I loved how the story was very silly and funny yet there was a moral message behind every episode. The show has had so much success in the past few years that audiences have craved more and more episodes every season. I found myself to be very sad that the show came to an end but I also understand why they decided to finish it. If the producers kept dragging the story, it would just make the show lose its quality.

SPOILER ALERT!

Before the last episode, we finally got to see what the good place looks like. We learned that the place was not what we expected! The few people that were in The Good Place were miserable from the beginning because eternity and perfection made them lose their minds. This is a great message because it shows that having eternity to do whatever we want can also be a curse. Life loses its purpose when there’s no end. The characters then find a solution to The Good Place by creating a door so people can leave and return to the universe.

The last episode is a goodbye to our dear characters and the show. We see them one by one going through the door when they feel ready and complete. I love it when Chidi says that The Good Place is a place to have extra time with the ones that we love. Giving Michael the chance to be human and experience the ups and downs of life was also a great character arc. To cap off the show a beautiful speech is delivered right before we say goodbye to Chidi. “Picture a wave in the ocean: you can see it, measure its height, the way the sunlight refracts… and then it crashes on the shore and then it’s gone. But the water is still there. The wave was just a different way for the water to be for a little while. That’s one conception of death for a Buddhist. The wave returns to the ocean, where it came from, and where it’s supposed to be.”

On the after show with the actor of “The Good Place”, the actress Kristen Bell talks about how the show is a metaphor for life. She says that although some may feel the show ended too quickly, it was the right time. The last episode of “the Good Place” is a beautiful end to a great show.
