The Kid Who Threw The Denny’s Hardcore Show in Santa Ana

Ending off the year on a high note, this past Saturday might have been one of the most epic shows Orange County has ever seen. A hardcore D.I.Y. punk show inside the Denny’s on Bristol St. in Santa Ana. Yes, INSIDE DENNY’S. Performances by Wacko and N.N.N. only lasted about a total of 30-40 minutes before getting shut down. The show was then followed by a generator show underneath a bridge near the Fountain Valley Costco parking lot that was also quickly shut down by cops after a performance by Evers Dead Babies.

A couple days after the show, I had the pleasure of talking with Bryson (@m0x.ie), a 17 year old promoter from Costa Mesa who was responsible for throwing the instant legendary show. To my surprise, this was Bryson’s first show that he’s organized. He had little expectation of the outcome, but word spread quickly and the turn out was amazing.

Updated: 12/18/19: Unfortunately, due to the high impact of the event, Bryson was left to owe Denny’s $1,800 in damages. Luckily, the feedback for Bryson’s efforts have been nothing but supportive. A Gofundme was created to help pay for the damages. After raising over $1200, the news started to break out on major headlines such as Billboard, ABC, Vice, NY Post, and more. The show even grabbed the attention of legendary punk band, Green Day, who donated $2000 to the damages Gofundme.

When asking Bryson how he felt, he was ecstatic about what was accomplished and was at a loss for words for unconditional support from the scene. I asked him what inspired the Denny’s show and he said it came from the infamous “What The Fuck Is Up, Dennys?” viral video that originated in 2013 from a Houston hardcore band.

“I’ve been part of the scene for a couple years now and it was something I wanted to do. I went to Denny’s and asked how I can rent out the space to throw a show there. They didn’t really know what kind of a show it would be.”

The Denny’s show was not the only part of the night that was memorable. The after party under the bridge was absolute madness and ended the night with a literal “bang” as fireworks went off, later being interrupted by cops to shut it all down.

Despite being shut down and having to pay for damages, this show was definitely one for the books and Bryson is a young legend who has a bright future ahead of him.
