As part of their Locals Only concert series, KROQ hosted the record release party for up-and-coming band James Supercave on January 26th at the legendary Troubadour in Hollywood. The night was a celebration of the first James Supercave release since their 2016 debut album Better Strange. The lineup featured fellow local acts Low Hum and Winter in support of James Supercave as the trio debuted songs from their new Alarm Will Sound EP to a sold out crowd.
The venue filled up early in anticipation for a night of great music and the bands did not disappoint. Low Hum opened the night and won the crowd over quickly with his energy and guitar riffs. When Winter hit the stage next she kept the momentum going with her glittery personality and catchy songs. It’s not always easy for an opening act to win over a crowd but both bands were able to make positive first impressions and likely earned plenty of new fans in the process.
James Supercave closed out the night and immediately showed why they are a band on the rise to keep an eye on. The trio brought Low Hum back on stage to play guitar for the entirety of their set and even added a saxophone player into the mix as well. With those additions they were able to show off their versatility and play a mix of high energy, clever, catchy and intimate songs. Fans of the band were excited to see them play their favorite songs, both new and old, and mix in some covers (like Plastic Beach by Gorillaz) as the cherry on top of their captivating set.
James Supercave is the type of rare band that can make their live music sound as good as, if not better than, it sounds on their records. When you see them perform the new songs from the 6 track EP like Fools, Come Alone and Something to Lose it is evident that they focused their attention on quality over quantity when making them because every new song they played had the crowd moving and left them wanting more.
The release party was just the beginning of what should be a big year for James Supercave. Check out the Alarm Will Sound EP and be on the lookout for tour dates in a city near you as they are set to kick off a fresh tour in March.
