Post Show Thoughts: Bane’s World and Sara King at the Observatory

Indie dream pop band Bane’s World has solidified their sound in the SoCal scene. The band formed in Long Beach consists of lead singer and guitarist Shane Blanchard, accompanied by drummer Antonio Aiello, bassist Vincent Reyes, and guitarist Matt Saunders.

Bane’s World is no stranger to the Observatory in Santa Ana, CA, playing at a mini-festival headlined by Tyler, The Creator, Brockhampton, and more back in December of 2017, as well as on their Dog Days tour in late June, alongside Inner Wave and Michael Seyer.

Bane’s World has dropped one 9 track project called Drowsy in 2016 as well as appearing as a feature on band Inner Wave’s single Woah. Their sound has stayed consistent both in their projects and features as well as their live performance.

Dallas Youtuber turned “glitter pop” artist Sara King took to the stage, opening the show and moving the crowd before Bane’s World came on. Uploading her first cover of “Sparks” by Coldplay on July 31, 2013, Sara King has come a long way: from a bedroom to opening at a sold-out show.

Sara King was the only one on stage, armed with her Macbook and guitar, but that didn’t keep her from filling up the entire room with the slow and transient tone of her singing. The audience’s eyes were locked in a daze as the singer danced around the stage. King was the perfect start to open for Bane’s World for the similar bedroom pop sound that they share. You could describe her music as a mix of Sabrina Claudio and Michael Seyer. Her performance encapsulated the winter blues with touches of inspiration from Kali Uchis.

The act of the night and what everyone has been waiting for…Bane’s World. The crowd stirred as they made their appearance onto the stage. Shane was in a Santa hat (covering his shaved head) which made an homage to the holidays. Everyone was moving about and dancing when they played “Stay Away from My Baby” and “Drowsy”, 2 of their most popular songs. Their songs were slow but packed with emotion. They were able to make visible waves into the pit, across the bar, and into the balcony. Everyone could feel the whole vibe of the concert and connect to the music that they were playing, whether it was their first or 4th time seeing Bane’s World perform. The atmosphere of the whole show was relaxing which paired well with the music that was amplified from the stage.

For most concert-goers, this was a brilliant way to wrap up 2018.
