Post Show Thoughts: Saosin at The Glass House

The lineup of men who only perform together once every couple of years took the stage and began by starting from the beginning, going right into the hard-hitting “Lost Symphonies.”

The set was a mixture of new and old, with the amazing songs from “Under the Shadow” sprinkled with hits of nostalgia from songs from over a decade ago. The constant that spans the two sides is the energy in the instrumentation (particularly Alex’s drumming) and the intensity in Anthony Green’s vocals.

For the encore, Cove Reber returned to perform the classics “You’re Not Alone” and “Voices,” both amazing in their own right. Saosin closed with both Anthony and Cove sharing vocals on “Seven Years,” and with that, decade-long internet arguments on Saosin videos and defunct post-hardcore message boards went silent.

During the closing lines of “Racing Toward a Red Light,” the words “And you’ll decide how you make it/And you’ll decide how it’s gonna be” are echoed, until the song ends and Anthony is left still chanting the words, reminding the audience that their fates are in their hands. These words are a testament to the life Anthony has been able to carve out on his own: leaving Saosin abruptly over a decade ago, starting anew with Circa Survive, overcoming addiction, continuing his pursuit of music worship through his solo work and numerous side projects, all on top of raising an ever-growing family.

It may have taken him a while, but Anthony is living life on his terms, and he urges us all to do the same.
