It all started as a friendship which became an outlet of self-expression for their members. High Morale is an up-and-coming Indie electronic band that was formed by three friends and named after their catchphrase “The morale is high!” This upbeat and electric indie band consists of SoCal Singer/Songwriter Brandon Hoogenboom, NY Producer Clay Cornelius, and Singer/Co-writer Kylie Koch.
High Morale’s new single “Face to Face” are rooted from synth-pop, indie rock, and electronica. An eccentric sound attained by their use of synthesizers and wavy electric guitar notes.
Their single “Face to Face” is off their upcoming debut EP which will be released July 30th. The lyrics speak about a dream in which they encountered a person they were longing to reconnect with and how “maybe we should give in to all the things we’ve been missing.”
My favorite part is their catchy phrase “Do you got time for that? I know you got time for that. Do you got time for that? You can make time for that” which are followed up by a groovy electric beat that might as well be taking you on a trip through the galaxy.
The lyrics are bathed in a romantic feel with vocals and chorus by Brandon Hoogenboom which are said to have captured the vulnerability yet courage of waking up and asking someone for a second chance. Although the lyrics might have possibly been infused by heartbreak, this song has no tone of sadness within its upbeat and galactic sound. On the other hand, the lyrics felt like a message to start giving into your dreams and aspirations and to think of everything that could be; a message to make time for that thing you’ve been wanting to do or that project you’ve been wanting to start. Take this as a sign and start making time for yourself and things that excite you.
“Do you got time for that? I know you got time for that
Do you got time for that? You can make time for that
Do you got time for that? I know you got time for that
Do you got time for that ? you can make time for that”
The music video began with a view into a surreal reality in which two bandmates take us on an explorative journey through some galactic dunes that appear to be on Mars. “Face to Face” depicts what a trip through our galaxy could look and feel like. A glimpse into a reality created by artist Robbie C. Ward through his illustrations for this music video. Robbie is an artist who creates hypnotic visuals by blending Prismacolor pencils and acrylic paint to create surreal and dreamlike landscapes that appear familiar yet are so otherworldly. Robbie’s artwork in this music video was then animated by group singer, Brandon Hoogenboom, because it takes some teamwork to make the dream work.
I’ve played “Face to Face” a few times already and can’t help but groove to the beat every time it comes on. It’s something about the electric yet synth-infused indie rock sound brought by the electric guitar and Korg Minilogue which are all played and programmed by producer Clay Cornelius. This song is a great addition to any summer playlist.
