Hailing from New Jersey, Mike Chiarappa is a twenty-five-year-old who started writing songs and recording them on his laptop while his band The Stolen was on hiatus. After compiling enough songs, he started producing the tracks at DIMM Studios, a recording studio he worked at.
The product of these sessions is Range Life, a collection of endearing songs that feel like the musical equivalent of a comforting hug from a friend. On his latest release, “Another Day” Chiarappa sings about “taking life one day at a time and trying not to get hung up over the negative aspects in everyday life.”
The music video was filmed and edited by Mike’s brother, Rob Chiarappa, and was completely impromptu. Like the song itself, the video shows the joys of not taking life too seriously with goofy showcases of Range Life playing with eggs, sticky notes and rolling on the floor during his guitar.
Chiarappa’s playfulness gives his songs a distinguishable tone that separates him from other indie musicians. Since his songs are recorded at a D.I.Y. studio, they have a home-cooked taste with a polished sound. The general vibe for Range Life’s is chill and laid back, but Chiarappa will add a subtle scream (they exist) or guitar solo stacked with phaser just because he wants to keep it interesting.
Chiarappa is planning on releasing his first full-length album as Range Life during the fall but a summer release date is not totally out of the picture. Keep your eyes peeled!
