A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to film performances by Chase Petra, Chloe Gallardo, and It’s Butter at the empty, Garden Amp main stage. Though it wasn’t ideal to throw a concert at a crowd-less amphitheater, we thought it was important to raise awareness about this cause, especially in light of sexual abuse allegations that recently surfaced in the local music community.
Fighting For Me (FFM), founded by Amanda Zarate, was created to meet the nationwide need for sexual abuse aftercare and prevention. FFM believes free, professional counseling for people affected by sexual abuse is as basic a need as water.
Amanda Zarate, who is a survivor of sexual abuse said, “When I founded Fighting For Me a few years ago, I wanted to create something I wish I would’ve had when I needed it. I was sexually abused when I was a young girl and I needed counseling, but I also needed compassion, I needed it to be easy, and I needed it to be free.”
