Bored? Here Are Some Movies You Can Stream For Free

Don’t have a Netflix or Hulu account? Don’t want to visit sketchy websites and possibly corrupt your computer with viruses? I got you covered. There are plenty of legitimate free movie streaming sites out there such as Tubi TV, Pluto TV, Sony Crackle, Vudu and IMDbTV.

Here are some of my personal favorite films you can stream right now, as well as where to watch them.

Donnie Darko (2001)

You might have to watch this film twice to understand it, but trust me, you’ll enjoy it just as much the second time.

Storyline: Donnie Darko, a troubled teenager, meets a creepy rabbit named Frank who tells him the world will end. Donnie tries to figure out the meaning of his visions while strange occurrences happen.

Where to watch: Tubi

Train To Busan (2016)

As someone who loves zombie movies, I have to admit that most of them aren’t that good. However, this Korean film raised the bar by the way it executed drama and horror scenes without relying on cheap scares.

Storyline: A man and his daughter are stuck in a passenger train with many others during a zombie outbreak that terrorizes South Korea.

Akira (1988)

Let’s be clear, I am not an anime nerd, but this film is an absolute cult classic with stunning animation that puts today’s animation studios to shame.

I won’t even call this a movie. This is a film and I’ll go as far as to say that it is a cinematic masterpiece.

Storyline: A post-apocalyptic cyberpunk film set in a dystopian Japan. A leader of a bike gang tries to save his unstable childhood friend who develops telekinetic powers after an accident.

Stand by Me (1986)

I absolutely love coming of age movies and tv shows like IT, The Sandlot, Stranger Things, and The Goonies. Although this film is much darker than most coming of age films, it’s still an adventure filled with nostalgia.

Storyline: Based on the Stephen King novella, The Body, four boys from Oregon embark on a journey to find the body of a missing boy.

Where to Watch: Crackle and Vudu

SLC PUNK! (1998)

“Only posers fall in love”

Back in high school, I thought I was so punk, and when I watched this film for the first time I thought it was the coolest thing ever. And I think a lot of other punks felt the same way because this film became a cult classic.

Storyline: Two bored punks living in Salt Lake City attempt to figure out what to do with their lives as they spend their days going to parties and underground punk shows.

Where to watch: Crackle

Good Burger (1997)

There’s something about the slapstick humor of the 90s era of Nickelodeon that can’t be replicated today, and Good Burger is definitely one of the best throwbacks of that era.

Storyline: Two kids, Ed and Dexter, try to save their jobs and burger joint from going out of business after competition opens up across the street.

Where to watch: Tubi

But I’m a Cheerleader (1999)

As a gay person, I’ve searched Netflix and Hulu endlessly for LGBT films that aren’t boring, cringy, or just straight up terrible. Luckily, there are a good handful of LGBT films that are worth the watch, and But I’m a Cheerleader is one of them. Unlike other LGBT films, this is a satirical comedy with exaggerated characters and over-the-top scenes.

Storyline:  A coming of age satire about a girl named Megan who is forced by her family to attend a gay conversion boot camp and ironically forms a relationship with another girl.
