Coronavirus ain’t got nothing on you
There is chaos all around us, everything is currently closed, there is nowhere to go and no one to see during this social distancing phase. That doesn’t mean you have to stay in your pj’s all day! It always feels good to dress up and express oneself through outfit choices, so I encourage you to play around with some of the following spring/summer trends that I’ll mention in this article. DISCLAIMER: You can also just stay in your pj’s all day and still make it fashionable.
If you are one of the people that would rather stay in their pj’s all day I think you’ll love this first trend, slip dresses. It’s clear that the ’90s are back but then again when did they ever leave? ’90s fashion is my absolute favorite as is this trend. It is so effortless yet so chic and feminine. Slip dresses are perfect for a night out and they’re so versatile as you can dress them up or dress them down. So take out that slip dress and if you don’t have one you can easily find one at your local thrift store!
Slip skirts have also found their way back and I hope they never leave. These skirts are often made from fabric like silk or satin and come in all sorts of patterns from animal print to florals and solid colors. They’re perfect for any occasion and can be styled in so many different ways. They look good with a t-shirt paired with some doc martens but they also look good with a sweater and some sneakers or strappy sandals. There are simply too many options!
Blazers continue to be a thing but this spring is coming in strong with the oversized boyfriend fit. Its been seen all across runways and is now being styled in a more feminine way; with skirts. shorts and dresses underneath. A popular look inspired by this trend and the ’90s is pairing a blazer with a bralette and some high waisted bottoms underneath. There are many ways to wear a blazer, many occasions, and many seasons, making this a perfect staple piece to have in your closet.
Swiping through Instagram has made me realize that cardigans have resurfaced but in a shrunken and cropped style which brings us to the fourth trend. Cardigans are such a throwback and are now being worn open or with a few buttons buttoned up. They look good tucked into jeans, over a slip dress or a silky skirt. Cardigans are perfect for when you need an extra layer of warmth but don’t want the bulk of a sweater or jacket.
Last but not least is the drawstring trend which has flooded the runway and has been seen on all kinds of garments from bottoms, shirts, dresses to outwear. This trend serves both an aesthetic and a functional purpose as the drawstrings can be used to cinch the waist in or for a nice finishing touch. I love seeing this sort of detailing along sleeves and dresses as it gives them a nice ruched effect.
I think we often save our best outfits for the days in which we have more human interaction like school days, concerts and hangouts but why not continue to do so on your days in?! Dressing up is fun and can make you feel good so go ahead and dress up for yourself; look cute for yourself even if there is nowhere to go. I hope these fashion trends were able to give you some inspiration for future outfit ideas!
