Garden Grove is finally making waves in Orange County. Kurtis Gibson, owner of Black Umbrella Tattoo & Art Gallery located on Historic Main Street Garden Grove says, “I really feel like within 2-3 years, this whole downtown area is going to be the new place to be.”
Before recent years, there hasn’t been much of a reason for Orange County or Los Angeles folks to come out to Garden Grove, besides maybe hitting up the local eateries.
With SteelCraft (a shipping container food court and outdoor shopping area) under construction by Garden Grove City Hall and the Garden Amp (outdoor concert venue on Main St.) having arrived early 2017, there’s one local tattoo shop that made it’s debut to Garden Grove in 2015 and has been dubbed by some of the local Grover residents as the “catalyst for change” in the area. That tattoo shop is Black Umbrella Tattoo & Art Gallery.
Watch our interview with Kurtis as he talks about what makes his shop unique as well as Black Umbrella’s contribution to Orange County’s art community.
